The best time to visit is during the UNESCO-listed Cordoba Patio Festival, which takes place the first two weeks of May every year. 

Cordoba Patio Festival roots back to the beginning of the 1900s when the city gave a prize to the best patios. The initiative was to encourage people to maintain the patios. Even today, there is a monetary prize for the most beautiful patios, and the locals take immense pride in their work. 

Private people open their courtyards for free to everyone visiting during the festival. 

It is impressive to experience the different flower designs and all the work behind the flower-draped walls, elaborate fountains, and different plant species. 

Once done with the courtyards, visit Cordoba’s UNESCO-listed Mosque-Cathedral, the only mosque not destroyed during the reconquest. Instead, they built a cathedral inside it. 

Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos and the Synagogue (the only one left in Andalucia) are other significant landmarks in the city.

Cordoba’s historic center and Jewish Quarter are lovely to walk around with cobbled streets, colorful pot plants on the whitewashed walls, and narrow alleys with old tea houses. 

Late spring in Cordoba is usually warm, at 75 – 85 degrees, and you can easily walk around in shorts and a T-shirt.

Reims, France

One of the best spring destinations in Europe has to be Reims. Reims is the capital of France’s Champagne region and only about an hour’s train ride from Paris.

Reims is a great place to visit in the spring as it is far less crowded than its peak times during the summer and autumn months. Aside from that, the weather, while a bit chilly, is perfect for wandering around the city and sipping Champagne at various Champagne houses all day. 

Reims is also stunning in the spring, with flowers dotting each city square, making the cobblestone streets and large plazas all the more charming than before. 

Champagne tasting in Reims is a must. There are ample Champagne houses throughout the city, including big names like Veuve Cliquot, Taittinger, and Champagne Pommery.

Aside from sampling some of the best sparkling wines in the world, there is a chance to tour the cellars, some of which were repurposed from old Roman chalk queries, like at Maison Ruinart! 

Aside from sipping Champagne, you’ll want to stop by the Reims Cathedral, which dates back to the 1200s and was where the French kings were coronated. 

While visiting Reims in the spring, be sure to bring a jacket. Daytime temperatures are around 50 – 60 degrees with the chance of clouds and a bit of rain. You can wear a dress with tights or nice jeans and a top while you’re out and about.

Spring is a beautiful time of year to visit Prague. You can enjoy Easter festivities complete with markets and flower decorations.

What’s more, other than strolling through Prague’s blossoming parks, you can see the cherry trees blossom in late April and early May! 

Prague has a lot of Japanese sakura trees scattered all over, but for the highest concentration, head to the Trója district and visit the gardens of the Trója Chateau. They are free to enter but are closed on Mondays. The Chateau is right across from the Prague Zoo and Prague Botanical Gardens, so you may visit all these places together.

If you visit with your loved one on May Day, join the lovely Czech tradition of kissing under a blossoming cherry tree.

At the beginning of April, Prague Castle gardens open after their winter-long hiatus, and you shouldn’t miss them on your visit. Make sure to see the South Gardens, which offer incredible city views. 

Remember that spring weather in Prague can be tricky. You may experience warm days with temperatures reaching 64 degrees, or it may be as cold as around 50 degrees. At night, temperatures can drop to the 40s. In any case, layers are essential, and don’t forget to bring an umbrella!

Additionally, spring means the Spring Festival in Vienna. This event is held from the beginning of March through the end of April and is a beautiful celebration of classical music. The Isle of Skye is part of the Scottish Highlands and is famous for its beautiful scenery. There are interesting rock formations on Skye, such as the Old Man of Storr, and beautiful waterfalls at the Fairy Pools.

The largest village is Portree, which has a pretty harbor with pastel-colored houses. 

Skye is also home to the Talisker Distillery for anyone who wants to learn how to make (and taste) whisky.

Most people visit the Isle of Skye during the summer, but that is one of the reasons why spring is such a great option to visit – there are far fewer people.

Another important reason is there are no midges during spring. These little biting flies can be very annoying during the summer months, but if you visit before mid-May, there won’t be any to bother you.

In April and May, the average high temperature is 52 degrees, and the minimum is 35 degrees. May is also the month with the lowest number of rainy days at 14.

Wear layers and have a fleece for cold days to deal with the varied weather. A Gore-Tex jacket is perfect for the rain showers and wind you will experience at some point during your stay.

There are two ways of getting to Skye. You can take the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale or drive using the Skye Bridge.

While Dublin weather is never that great, temperatures start to warm up beginning in March, with average highs of 55 degrees throughout the season.

Spring is also rainy, with an average of ten days of rain each month. Given that this level of precipitation is relatively normal year-round, don’t let the dampness deter you from a spring trip to Dublin.

Bring a warm, rainproof jacket and pack layers, and you’ll be out there braving the rain with the locals.

Spring is when the French Riviera comes to life. While taking a dip in the Mediterranean may not be on the agenda, afternoon temperatures between 55 and 65 degrees allow some beach time. Just bring a sweater or a jacket to enjoy the chilly evenings.

The clear sky and warming sun make exploring the city and its delights much more pleasant. Climb the steps to the top of Castle Hill to take in the panoramic views, cycle the palm-lined Promenade des Anglais, or explore the city’s abundant art museums.

The Fêtes de Mai is the highlight of spring in Nice. This cultural celebration forms the perfect introduction to the local cuisine and traditions. It takes place in the Cimiez district, one of the lesser-known areas of Nice.

Overall, there are fewer crowds in the city in spring than during summer.

However, the second half of May is an exception to the rule. With the Cannes Film Festival taking place just west of Nice and the Monaco Grand Prix just east of Nice, the city is overrun with affluent visitors from all over the world. It’s the perfect opportunity to go celebrity-spotting.

Spring season officially arrives in mid-March, and with this comes longer days, beautiful flowers, and the iconic Valborg Festival. 

Valborg (also known as Walpurgis) takes place on 30th April every year. It’s a traditional celebration called the ‘Night of the Bonfire.’

To celebrate Spring, locals gather around huge bonfires to dance, sing folk songs, tell stories, and watch the fireworks. Often, hot dog vendors and food trucks are stationed nearby. It’s a great way to embrace Sweden’s culture.

Another highlight of visiting Stockholm in spring is the cherry blossom. The trees bloom in late March, although mid-April is the best time to see them. The best place to see the cherry blossom is the avenues of Kungsträdgården.

Finally, spring is an excellent time of year to explore the archipelago. Temperatures are pleasant, and you won’t experience the crowds of summer. You can explore by heading out on an archipelago cruise or hiring a kayak.

In terms of the climate, you can expect temperatures between 45 – 65 degrees. Between March and May, precipitation levels differ, although average rainfall levels are around 0.5 – 2 inches.

Kotor is an idyllic town between Mount Lovcen’s base and the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. It is an old medieval city visually distinct by its tall fortress walls and emerald green water of the Skurda River flowing into the bay.

The best part of visiting Kotor in the spring is its mild Mediterranean temperatures, ranging from 60 – 75 degrees on average, perfect for exploring. There is occasional rain, but you’ll have no issues if you dress in layers and have a light raincoat handy.

Kotor is a popular stop among cruise lines. By visiting in spring, you’ll beat the peak summer months. This allows you to enjoy the tiny alleyways of the old town without the crowds.

Kotor is near the Adriatic Sea. Therefore, you’ll find several sunny and warm days ideal for hiking up to the top of San Giovanni Fortress. Once you climb the 1,355 steps, you’ll be greeted with breathtaking views of the town and the entire Bay of Kotor.

For a relaxing activity, hop on a boat and tour the bay to Our Lady of the Rocks island or Blue Cave. If the day is warm enough, take advantage of the sun and bask on a gorgeous beach along the nearby Budva Riviera.

There are all sorts of hikes, but if you want to combine everything Sardinia offers, opt for a coastal trail that will have you puff along the way while taking in the most stunning sea views.

You don’t have to go out of your way for that. In Cagliari, the capital city, you can hike to the Devil’s Saddle, a promontory that offers views of the Poetto Beach below.

Bucharest, Romania

Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France and an excellent choice for foodies. Further, spring brings several unique festivals to enjoy in Lyon.

One of the top things to do in Lyon – no matter what time of year you visit – is to visit the stunning Notre Dame de Fourvière Basilica. Plus, the views of Lyon from its hilltop perch are incredible.

Lake District National Park, England

If you like mountain scenery and wildflower blooms, the Lake District National Park in northwest England is the place to go in spring.

Head to the shores of Crummock Water to see the Rannerdale bluebells, which come out in late April and into May. The valley setting is stunning, and there’s easy parking nearby.

Or, to photograph swathes of the daffodils made famous by writer William Wordsworth’s poem, you should visit the woods along the northern bank of Ullswater.

Spring is also a great time to visit the park if you prefer to see it without the crowds. In summer, the roads and attractions are busy, but in spring, it’s easier to find a quiet scenic spot all to yourself. The Portuguese archipelago of Madeira got this nickname thanks to its year-round spring-like climate and temperatures. 

On average, the temperatures don’t exceed 73 degrees. While you may find it rains on some days throughout the winter, rain is far less likely in spring and summer.

Spring is one of the best times to visit Madeira. But you should pack light layers for your trip, as the sea breezes can be chilly in the evenings. During the day, shorts, light tops, and cardigans should be sufficient. 

Climate and weather aside, there are two other reasons why Madeira is the perfect spring destination – both revolve around flowers.

Spring weather in Barcelona is generally dry, but you may get some rain showers. Hence, an umbrella or raincoat is a good idea to pack, along with comfortable shoes or walking sandals for sightseeing.

Malaga is a fantastic spring destination for many reasons. First, it is one of the sunniest cities in Europe, and the temperatures are very pleasant – not cold or too hot.

The maximum temperature is around 66 degrees, and the minimum is 50. It rains only four days on average. Therefore, you can easily pack light clothes and a jacket for the evening when it is cooler.

Second, if you visit Malaga at the end of March, you can experience the religious parades during Easter. It is a unique traditional festival.

Third, it is the best time for sightseeing. Besides Easter, Malaga doesn’t get very crowded at this time of the year, and you can still have some perfect days for soaking in the sun at the beach.

However, if you are an active traveler, you will also love the beautiful hikes you can do in spring. You can see the cherry blossoms when walking in mountainside towns like Alora, Pizarra, and Cartama.

Even if you don’t plan to hike, you can see the beautiful flowers blossoming in the historic center and its surroundings. It is lovely to see the purple jacaranda flowers.

Whether you visit Malaga for a few days or more, don’t miss discovering the main attractions, such as the Alcazaba de Málaga and Cathedral.

Spring is a wonderful time to travel in Europe, and one place to add to your list is the medieval city of Assisi.

Located in central Italy north of Rome, Assisi is one of the most significant places in the Umbria region because of its importance as a pilgrimage site. 

Assisi is also part of Mount Subasio National Park, a great place to visit in spring when the landscape turns a million shades of green and yellow and the bright colors of spring flowers punctuate the scenery. This seasonal bloom and blossoming olive orchards are a fitting metaphor for rebirth in the picture-perfect town.

Assisi is both the birthplace and final resting place of St. Francis of Assisi, and there are colorful processions throughout the week beginning on Palm Sunday. No matter when you visit, be sure to see the magnificent Basilica di San Francesco.

Besides the traditional Holy Week and Easter observance, there is the Calendimaggio Assisi, a festival that dates to medieval times and ushers in the spring. The city is divided into two teams who compete in medieval events like archery and tug of war. Local folks dress in period clothing and perform reenactments.

Weather in spring is ideal, with sunny skies and moderate temperatures. There will likely be a few rainy days, so pack a rain jacket. When visiting the Basilica, pack a shawl and long pants covering your knees and shoulders.

The Swiss capital of Bern is a charming UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring stunning views over the old city framed by 100 Japanese sakura trees — without the crazy crowds.

Gifted to the city by a Japanese student in 1975, the cherry blossoms are fleeting, only lasting around 10 days. If you’re hoping to catch the blossoms at their peak, visit Bern from late March to the first week of April.

The weather around this time is pleasant, with temperatures on average 50 – 60 degrees during the day and clear skies. Pack a good puffer jacket, layers, and warm boots, as temperatures can hover around 0 at night.

Cherry blossoms aren’t the only reason for seeing Bern in one day during spring. Easter occurs around this time, meaning there are plenty of delicious bunny-shaped Swiss chocolates to indulge in.

And unlike other more popular cities such as Lucerne and Zurich, Bern is less crowded and more relaxed during spring.

Berlin is a fantastic destination in Europe in the spring for several reasons. But one of the best reasons is the cherry blossoms.

Finally, Seville is a particularly fascinating spring destination if you can time your visit to coincide with Holy Week or Santa Semana – the 10 days leading up to Easter. 

Holy Week festivals in Spain are a huge deal, and Seville has some of the biggest festivals in the entire country. 

Every day leading up to Easter brings multiple huge processionals through the city, organized by different brotherhoods. Each procession involves a crowd of penitents, wearing capes and hoods, filing through the street, followed by an enormous float depicting some scene from the Passion of the Christ, followed by a marching band playing rousing music. 

And, of course, Seville is an incredibly beautiful city with exciting attractions. Don’t miss visiting the Real Alcazar Palace, the Seville Cathedral and La Giralda bell tower, the stunning Plaza de Espana, and catching a traditional flamenco dance show.
