Villa Del Balbianello, a Baroque-styled residence on Lake Como in Italy, is the “most-talked” about Villa in India at the moment. And that is because one of India’s favorite Bollywood couples has decided to tie the knot at this very mansion!

Indians love Bollywood! And more than that, we love our Bollywood stars! And when one of them is getting married in Italy, no doubt their wedding venue if of utmost importance to us. We will brave everything to get there including the complex process of applying for an Italy visa for Indians.

There was no way I could forget Villa Del Balbianello!

It was in the summer of 2012 that I visited Lake Como. Balbianello was my favorite spot here. The grounds mesmerized me and so did the views of the lake. A wedding was on at the villa when I arrived and the atmosphere was blissful. After an invigorating walk through the charming scenery, I tasted some divine lemon tart at a rustic Italian kitchen. And after bidding farewell to Balbianello I went back to my hotel for a peaceful sleep with some sweet dreams. I woke up early the next day for a wonderful day in Venice.

Only to rush back to Milan an hour later after losing my passport!!!

Phew! Italy had been one memorable trip for us. I would love to go back there again. And Villa Del Balbianello does hold a special place in my heart.

I smiled at the news of the wedding. A mention of the venue brought back so many fond memories. It was nice to see somebody else making memories at this place. I had a sudden urge to go back in time. I quickly scanned through my collection and spotted some amazing pictures that I had clicked when I was there. And today seemed just the perfect day to share them with all of you.

So, while Deepika and Ranveer wait to read their vows to each other, let’s take a tour of Villa Del Balbianello.

The villa has a well-manicured garden with pretty flowers hanging around everywhere. The trees and hedges are cut into the most perfect shapes ever imagined. And as you stare at the lake from behind these elegant objects, you realize the beauty of everything that surrounds you. For a moment, the feeling can be overpowering. It can be ethereal, driving you into a different world altogether. The world of nymphs and fairies where everything seems only too perfect!

The History of The Mansion

Villa Del Balbianello is the most beautiful villa of Lake Como. It has an interesting history. There was once a Franciscan monastery at the very spot of the villa since the early 13th century. It was taken over by a powerful cardinal, Angelo Maria Durini, who began its conversion into a villa. In the 20th century, it was purchased by Guido Monzino, the first Italian to climb Mount Everest, and given the elegant sheen that it retains even today. Apparently, Balbianello is the most visited villa in Italy!

A number of movies have been shot at this picturesque location including Casino Royale and Star Wars Attack of The Clones. It has been a retreat to quite a few international celebrities. A number of Italian politicians, artists, and writers have made this their abode at different times in history. No doubt, this place speaks volumes when it comes to history and character.

A Favorite Wedding Destination

This royal mansion is a favorite place for weddings. In fact, it is considered to be one of the most exclusive and luxurious Italian wedding venues. It provides just the right setting for a wedding and the perfect spots for capturing those beautiful moments.

How To Get Here

We took a ferry from Bellagio to Lenno and then another smaller boat to the villa from Lenno. You can also take the bus, taxi, or simply walk. For more transport options, check this out.
