Polonnaruwa, an ancient capital city of Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese Empire, was once the epitome of art and culture. It was home to the sacred tooth relic of Buddha apart from being the site of one of the largest Buddhist universities of the medieval era. And it was home to 4 iconic Buddha statues that form the pilgrimage site of Gal Vihara today.
